How it works

Mowgli delivers training and mentor matching programmes (MMEs) in partnership with local organisations. We recruit, screen, and train mentors and entrepreneurs and our expert facilitators match them, guide a contract agreement, and support a year long mentoring relationship.

The year is supported by the online resources in our Knowledge Centre, regular peer support and sharing events, and a structured, guided process from entry to closure with experienced facilitators. (Read our Case Studies to learn more).

  • Mowgli recruits voluntary mentors from local communities and our networks, as well as taking applications from new volunteers all the time who want to offer their time to an entrepreneur. Read more on our ‘Get involved’ page.
  • Entrepreneurs can apply to us directly, or be referred by our partners. Currently participation is free for entrepreneurs, though we encourage donations to the Mowgli Fund at the end of their time with us. Read more on our ‘Get involved’ page.
Mowgli Mentor and Mentee

Mowgli Mentor and Mentee, after matching at an MME event

  • Matching is done at the MME event, after a number of learning workshops and seminars specially designed by Mowgli to help entrepreneurs think about business strategy, and to help Mowgli mentors prepare for working with them. There are also relationship building workshops to ensure matched pairs work together effectively. Download the Participation Guidelines below to find out more about what’s involved.
  • Facilitated relationships last for 1 year. Some mentors work with entrepreneurs in other countries via long-distance mentoring; others join a programme local to them. Find out where we work.
  • Mowgli works with a number of partners in the countries we operate, including NGOs, governmental and local authority services, community and business networks, and corporate partners. Our partnerships ensure that our entrepreneurs are supported in all aspects of running their business, and that we collaborate with (rather than duplicate or exclude) local SME advisory networks and services. Find our more about Who We Work With.

Thinking of getting involved?

  • A mentoring role is a serious commitment. The ability to mentor is a core attribute of leaders. Our programme participants, both mentors and mentee entrepreneurs, are motivated and inspiring individuals who want to make a difference. Mowgli Mentors are not consultants or coaches; they provide a personal relationship which inspires, supports and empowers the entrepreneur to achieve their business and personal potential.  Read more: What is mentoring?
  • Once you have read and understood what Mowgli Mentoring is and why we do it, please take the next step and get involved- either by taking part in a programme, or by joining us as a partner, sponsor, or volunteer. You can also donate to the Mowgli Fund. Get Involved.
