How to use a Gravatar photograph in your blog comments

gravatar imageHave you ever wandered around the web and noticed that on some blogs there are comments?  If so, you may well have seen that some of those blog comments have pictures next to them but many don’t.  The reason for this is because the comment author has not created a Gravatar image.  That’s not to say they are at fault, the main reason they don’t do it is because either they don’t know how to or that were in a position to do so.

Linda Parkinson-HardmanHere, on the Mowgli Foundation blog  you’ll see that many of the comments are listed with the blue picture above showing next to them.  This is the default Gravatar image for this particular website (and installation of wordpress as it happens).  However, whenever (and wherever) I post a comment, you will see one of my business photographs peering out at you.  Typically something like the one on the left.  Although I do have several around the web :-)

So how do I manage it?  Well, I use the service provided by those very nice people at www.gravatar.com.  This particular service allows you to associate different images with different email addresses.  So when I’m responding as Linda on behalf of The Mowgli Foundation, you will see the image to the left, when I’m responding as Linda for the Hysterectomy Association or as Grow a Better Business then you will see something completely different – pretty cool eh!
