Hey, Mowgli is being supported by Bournemouth Twestival 2011

Twestival Local 2011 Bournemouth LogoOkay, I know the biggest question is going to be, ‘what is a Twestival, what does it mean for Mowgli  and what’s it got to do with Bournemouth?’, so perhaps this post should give a bit of background, as we’d love all our loyal readers to get involved if they can, whether that’s in person at the event or on-line on Twitter. A Twestival® (aka Twitter Festival) is an event designed to connect communities of people that regularly interact on-line, off-line too; to raise awareness of, and funds for, a great social cause.

It began as a grass roots social media fund raising event in 2009 and since then has raised almost $1.2 (over £750,000) has been raised by the volunteers that organise each local event.  137 different non-profit organisations have benefited, not only through the funds raised, but the awareness generated. This year there is an international focus on Twestival Local and Bournemouth is having it’s own event on 24th March.   And … the biggest news is that the Mowgli Foundation is the charity that will be supported by the event, so come and help make this one of the biggest and best Twestival’s this year.

We’ve committed to working with Dorset based entrepreneurs and helping to build this local economy, along with our Jordan, Syrian, Lebanese and other UK programmes.

What can I do?

There are lots of things you could do to help us make Bournemouth Twestival 2011 a great success:

  • Come along to the event – it’s taking place from 6.30pm onwards at Bar 1812, Royal Exeter Hotel, Exeter Road, Bournemouth, Dorset, BH2 5AG
  • Pass the message along to friends, family colleagues and especially anyone you may know in Dorset and the surrounding area who may be interested in joining us on the day
  • Tweet it out, the official hashtag for the event is #MeetDraw9, I’ll also be using on @MowgliTweets.  The official Twitter account is @meetdraw – if you aren’t sure what a hashtag is then we’ve got a handy guide to hashtags for you here
  • Mention it in your Linkedin and status updates and don’t forget to include it in your blog (if you have one) or your website.
