Unemployment and Poverty in Egypt

According to CNN, the current turmoil in Egypt is driven by a lack of jobs and the high levels of poverty in the country.  Statistics show that 50% of men and 90% of women are still without employment two years after leaving college.  It is also telling that 19.3% of the population live on less that $2 a day.  All this despite the boom in the price of oil.

You can see the whole report on the CNN website at: http://money.cnn.com/video/news/2011/02/01/n_egypt_economy.cnnmoney/

Maybe what’s mentioned in the report is correct. one thing is not correct which is the demonstration or revolution was not started and have not continued mainly because of that… you can see so many Egyptian figures and very wealthy people, millionaires even are protesting in Tahrir sqr. It’s revolution against corruption, injustice, humiliation of the Egyptian in our own beloved country, dictatorship.
If it was for money, people would go home when the government granted raise to the Gov. employees as well as the army… people asked for democracy, and justice.
Power of technology and spiritual prayers of all Egyptian (Muslims and Christians and others) will be enough to achieve what we are all hoping for and getting closer to everyday :) )

    • That’s an excellent point you make Nermeen and one that is often overlooked, which is that revolutions (of any type) start with just one thing but quickly gather pace to incorporate the huge variety of injustice that the people feel.
