Outliers – Malcom Gladwell

Whilst on vacation in South Africa, I have had the opportunity to read the above title.

Well worth a read as it dismisses many myths and brings a sense of reality. However a particular paragraph really highlighted to me the correlation between this piece of work and what Mowgli is creating.

A couple of concepts that were at the fore:

  1. “To build a better world we need to replace a patchwork of lucky breaks and arbitrary advantages that today determine success – the fortunate birthdates and the happy accidents of history – with a society that provides opportunities for all… The world could be so much richer than the world we have settled for“.
  2. The introduction of what was termed “meaningful work” which captivates, motivates the human spirit is comprised of three criteria which are highlighted in the book and so relevant for entrepreneurs:
  • Clear relationship between effort and reward
  • Complex work
  • Autonomous
